Josh is a major character in Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders where he was voiced by the late Bob Kaliban in English. He is very "cool" member of the Pack, riding his wolf friend named Stormrunner (or just Storm), and is a dark-skinned like the Jewel Riders member Fallon.
In the show[]
He is very outgoing and is not afraid to speak his mind. A skilled raider, Josh is well paired with his great wolf Stormrunner. He has a terrific, if not sometimes warped, sense of humor and loves practical jokes, but he is always there to back others up and help others to do what is right.
When he is not riding with the Pack, Josh studies engineering, archaeology and astronomy. He wants to turn Avalon into a world of machines and he loves to tinker, redesigning his riding gear to accommodate different riding styles. He is always building or improving some new design or device.

A redesigned Josh will return in the sequel comic series as part of the Pack under the friendly leadership of Fallon. In the sneak preview, he is shown being encourages by her to practice acrobatic trick moves together with Stormshadow instead of alone.

The character that would become Max began as Keeran ("F'Lessan's best friend, street-smart artful dodger") when the show was meant to be an adaptation of Dragonriders of Pern.[1] Josh also inherited elements of the cut character character Brand from a later pre-production versions of Jewel Riders, which in turn had began as Benellek (Benelek of Pern), described as a "mechanical genius, equivalent of M in James Bond." At one point, Josh was further named Max when the name of Max was to be Thomas, perhaps resulting in some confusion between their characters.
Josh has an updated look in the comic, sporting longer hair and new sunglasses. Like Drake, he seem have a sleeker build than in the show.

In the reboot books Avalon: Web of Magic, there are magical wolves named Stormbringer and Dawnrunner.
