Outlaws

The Outlaws, also known as the Badlands Bandits, are minor recurring characters in Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders. They are featured in two episodes, "Badlands" and "Prince of the Forest".

The Outlaws are a group of bandits that roam through Avalon, looking to rob the traveling caravans or wagon trains of the Craft Masters transporting their art to Craft Fairs. The Outlaws are mostly male, but some are female, including a woman who appears to be a second-in-command after their boss. Their dangerous and nasty leader, Civello (or Cirello, as his name is also written in the scripts), works for the evil Lady Kale.

Kale herself is often described as "Outlaw Princess" in the season one scripts. (One of her descriptions says: "From her castle in the Thornwoods, she plans outlaw raids on traveling caravans that transport goods and information across the kingdom, stealing knowledge of the whereabouts of the Seven Stones of The Kingdom.")

Civello and his gang are featured in two episodes through both seasons of the series. In "Badlands",Lady Kale learns that the Jewel Riders escort a caravan to Castle Greenwood so she organizes the ambush in the Badlands to get Merlin's Key. But Civello underestimates the Jewel Riders despite Kale's warnings, and his initial attack is quickly beaten back. After Kale joins in herself, the Outlaws eventually manage to capture Princess Gwenevere (and Sunstar) for ransom, but then Kale just steals away their catch for herself.

Later, in the second season's "Prince of the Forest", Kale hires them to capture or kill (with the help of their giant bolt-thrower weapon) the mysterious Beast (Ian) in the Forests of Arden in order to get its Wizard Jewel for herself. Kale not only pays the gang but also, disappointed with their failures, intimidates them to work harder or else ("Unless I get that jewel, you're going to get a one-way ticket into the wild magic!"). But the Jewel Riders foil their attempt to shoot down the enraged Beast-Ian, who trashes their camp and then chases after them as they flee into the forest.
